Modeling correlated noise is necessary to decode uncertainty.
Brain decoding algorithms form an important part of the arsenal of analysis tools available to neuroscientists, allowing for a more detailed study of the kind of information represented in patterns of cortical activity. While most current decoding algorithms focus on estimating a single, most likely stimulus from the pattern of noisy fMRI responses, the presence of noise causes this estimate to...
متن کاملWhy and How Is Compassion Necessary to Provide Good Healthcare? Comments From an Academic Physician; Comment on “Why and How Is Compassion Necessary to Provide Good Quality Healthcare?”
This is a short commentary to the editorial issued by Marianna Fotaki, entitled: “Why and how is compassion necessary to provide good quality healthcare.” It introduces the necessity of a more cognitive approach to explore further the determinants of behavior towards compassionate care. It raises questions about the importance of training towards a more patient-care and values driven healthcare...
متن کاملIs It Necessary to Restrict Forex Financial Trading? A Modified Model
The Central Bank of Iran banned online currency trading through Forex brokers in November 2016. However, some Iranian speculators still trade in the online Forex market. Is this prohibition on Forex trading reasonable? According to reports, the majority of Forex day traders fail and leave the market within six months to a year. Some scholars attribute this failure to the changeable characterist...
متن کاملFitting circles to data with correlated noise
We study the problem of fitting circles to scattered data. Unlike many other studies, we assume that the noise is (strongly) correlated; we adopt a particular model where correlations decay exponentially with the distance between data points. Our main results are formulas for the maximum likelihood estimates and their covariance matrix. Our study is motivated by (and applied to) arcs collected ...
متن کاملNumerical modeling of economic uncertainty
Representation and modeling of economic uncertainty is addressed by different modeling methods, namely stochastic variables and probabilities, interval analysis, and fuzzy numbers, in particular triple estimates. Fo-cusing on discounted cash flow analysis numerical results are presented, comparisons are made between alter-native modeling methods, and characteristics of the methods are discussed.
